Suppression
Homeopathy starts from the premise that your VITAL FORCE is always doing the very best it can to manifest the highest level of wellness and balance possible given its circumstances. The vital force has an inherent wisdom that functions in accordance with a certain hierarchy of importance. For example, the vital force serves to first protect those functions and organs that are most essential for life. The vital force communicates it’s state through recognizable symptoms at the mental, emotional and physical levels. In a certain way, these symptoms allow the disturbance to be expressed and play a role in helping the organism retain its balance and protect it’s deepest and most important elements.
Homeopaths become concerned when powerful allopathic medications are used repeatedly to remove a person’s symptoms without bringing about healing at a deeper level. When symptoms are suppressed without addressing the root cause, it goes against the inherent wisdom of the vital force. The result is to drive the level of disturbance to ever deeper levels of the organism. One of the world’s most respected current day homeopaths is George Vithoulkis, MD. He recently released a book titled Levels of Health which carefully reviews how disease progresses as a result of suppressive therapies and medicines.
Constantine Herring (1800 – 1880) was a very important figure in the history of homeopathy and he was the first to articulate the Law of Cure. The Law of Cure states that: “Healing proceeds from the most important organs to the least important organs, from the inside out, from top to the bottom of the physical body and in reverse order of appearance”. When suppressive therapies are used repeatedly, the long term effect is that least important organs and functions are protected at the expense of more important organs and functions. Suppression serves to drive the disturbance deeper into the organism, against the body’s wisdom and in the opposite direction of the Law of Cure.
In my practice, I seek to carefully track the unfolding or a person’s care to ensure that it is always moving in the direction of cure. Effective homeopathic care usually leaves a person with an overall feeling of wellness at the mental/ emotional level even if minor symptoms prevail for a time.
